SVC Tours led a bird watching tour of Prey Veng Village, Preah Vihear with Excellency Neth Pheaktra, Secretary of State and Spokesman for the Ministry of Environment (MoE) in coordination with the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), USAID and Sansom Mlup Prey (SMP).
Prey Veng Village has long been considered a hidden birding hotspot in Cambodia with a vast array of species including; Giant Ibis, White-winged Duck, Sarus Crane and more (Click here for full bird list).
On the morning of January 31st 2021, SVC Tours guide Mony Sang led members of MOE and local media on a birdwatching trip to Prey Veng Village in Kulen Promtep Wildlife Sanctuary (KPWS) and saw two Giant Ibis feeding in the ancient baray as well as an assortment of other species. We also got the opportunity to explore the Chen Srom Temple complex situated 15 minutes walk from Prey Veng Village ecolodge.
Along with a morning of birding, SVC Tours used our custom made trailer for the first time. Prey Veng Village is one of the most remote tourist destinations in Cambodia and is either only accessible through 4×4 cars of traditional Goyun. In the rainy season, even 4×4’s struggle. This new Goyun trailer now allows a comfortable ride in rough terrain. The removable roof also allows birdwatching on the move at a steady pace.
